Stomach cancer – this type of cancer develops when cancer cells form in the inner lining of your stomach. So, what happens next? Well, these cancer cells can grow into a tumor and it grows slowly over the years.
This type of cancer is also known by the name gastric cancer. According to the latest statistics, 24,000 new cases are diagnosed every year (in the United States). The real and ugly truth is that the symptoms of this terrible disease rarely occur (until the disease spreads through the entire body). And, unfortunately, at advanced stage, this type of cancer is no longer treatable.
This is the main reason why you need to know the risk factors and the warning signs of this terrible disease. These are the most common symptoms indicating that you have stomach cancer (according to the ACS – American Cancer Society):
- Pain in the abdomen.
- No appetite.
- Blood in the stool.
The million-dollar question – what makes cancer cells start growing in the stomach? Well, unfortunately, the experts don’t know that yet. But, they say that there are few things that can increase the risk for this disease.
Ladies and gentlemen, one of the most common reason for this terrible disease is an infection with a common bacterium (H. pylori) that causes ulcers.
Stomach Cancer – Most Common Risk Factors:
- Age (older than 55 are at higher risk)
- Gender (males are at higher risk)
- Unhealthy diet (smoked, dried, salted or pickled food)
- Stomach surgery.
- H. pylori.
